Last updated: 29 Nov 2025

Although the COVID outbreak has eased, for some patients, COVID still leaves behind long-term health problems. One disease that has been found to occur more after the COVID outbreak is 'autoimmune disease'.

Reports found that in people who have been infected with COVID, the incidence of autoimmune disease has increased by 42%, and about 50% or half of those who have been infected with COVID have autoantibodies in their bloodstream, which may be one of the causes of autoimmune disease.

**Autoantibodies is a protein created by our immune system but acts to destroy our own body's cells.

‍️ Currently, there is evidence that COVID can increase the risk of many autoimmune diseases, such as:
- SLE
- Thyroid dysfunction
- Immune thrombocytopenia
- Vascular inflammation
- Arthritis
- Inflammatory bowel disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C)

In addition to the above diseases, there are other abnormalities such as:
- Chronic fatigue
- Chronic headache
- Chronic inflammation
- Gastrointestinal problems
- Sleep problems
- Infertility
etc.

‍️ Therefore, if you are someone who has been infected with COVID, you should observe your symptoms and check your health regularly. If there is an abnormality, you should consult a doctor immediately.
