Stages and treatments of knee osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common knee problem. It often comes with knee joint pain when bending the knee or going up and down the stairs, having difficulty standing up and sitting on the floor. ️ Stage 0
is the period when the knee joint is in normal condition. No symptoms yet.
Treatment : -

Stage 1
is the period where small bone spurs are found from X-ray images where the narrowing of the gap between the joint has not yet been found and often no symptoms or very few symptoms.
Treatment : Exercise the muscles around the knee. Avoid risk factors such as heavy body weight, heavy use and malposture.

️ Stage 2
At this stage, the X-ray picture is similar to stage 1, but symptoms will begin to appear more, such as knee pain when walking or running, difficulty moving joints after sitting for a long time or after waking up, difficulty bending knees
Treatment: may need treatment with physical therapy, and wear joint braces or support.

️ Stage 3
At this stage, the X-ray shows a narrowing of the joint space indicates that the cartilage layer begins to thin. The symptoms will be more. More knee pain, more stiffness with swollen knees.
Treatment: Medication has been started to treat the symptoms combined with physical therapy. If symptoms do not improve, Injections into the knee joint may be needed to reduce inflammation. The limitations of drug use are If using NSAIDs for a long time it may cause stomach, kidney and heart problems. Steroids, if used frequently it may affect the strength of bones and ligaments.

️ Stage 4
This period is severe condition. X-ray found The gap between the bones is markedly narrowed. Sometimes bones may collide causing severe pain and stiffness of the knee joint. There is deformity of the knees, bowed legs, knees that cannot be stepped on or fully bent.
Treatment: If the pain is severe and is an obstacle to living life May need to be treated with surgery to correct the curvature of the knee. or knee replacement surgery.
